Gas detector are prepd. from SnO2, based compns. contg. small amts. of Sn oxide-base compns. contg. small amts. of Sn chloride and <=5wt.% (total) of Al2O3, ZnO, SrO, and(or) Bao and 0.01-2.0wt.% oxide or chlorides of Co, Ir, Os, Pd, Pt, Rh, Rn, and (or) Ni. Thus, NH4OH was added to an aq. soln. contg. Cn C14 and Al(NO3)3. The gas detectors exhibit very high sensitivity towards CO of low or high concn.
