<p>Heat insulator contains 85-96 pts. wt. mineral wool, e.g. glass fibres, coated with 15-2 pts. wt. modified phenol-HCHO resol binder, prepd. by reacting phenol, HCHO, NaOH, a water-repellant additive, (I) and also urea or dicyandiamide or melamine (I) consists of >=1 2-8 C-alkyl-resorcinol. Resol component proportions are, by wt., 1 part phenol, 0.74-0.96 parts HCHO, 0.03-0.05 parts NaOH 0.075-0.45 parts 2-8 C-alkyl resorcinol(s) and 0.15-0.35 parts urea, dicyandiamide or melamine. The insulator is used in building inductry, esp. for heat insulating pre-cast reinforced concrete units, walls, roofs, pipes, containers and cisterns. Incorporation of (I) (i) lowers water absorption, e.g. from 350-400% to 30-45%; (ii) increases resistance to moisture, e.g. residual adhesion is increased 1.5-2x after 72 hrs. storage in a moist atmos.; (iii) improves adhesion by 15%.</p> |
