<p>Grease base stocks comprise a blend of (a) a liq. pentaerythritol ester and (b) a neopentyl glycol ester in an (a): (b) wt. ratio of 2:3 to 9:1. Component (a) comprises a pentaerythritol material (pentaerythritol and/or polypentaerythritols) fully esterified by 4-12C alkanoic acids. Component (b), which has a higher 77 degrees F viscosity than (a) comprises the reaction prod. of neopentyl glycol (NPG) with 4-12C alkanedioic acids and 4-12C alkanols in a molar ratio of n:(n+1):2 (where (=1-12, esp. 6). The prods. have high thermal stability, low volatility and good corrosion/oxidn. stability when heated in the presence of O2 and metals. They are thus esp. useful for high-temp. applications.</p> |
