1488348 Furnace walls MORGAN REFRACTORIES Ltd 27 Nov 1974 [4 Dec 1973] 56173/73 Heading F4B A furnace wall is formed of bonded courses of unfired refractory blocks 1 having grooves 3 in their upper and lower faces, and fired refractory rods 5 co-operating with the grooves 3 and running along the courses within the wall. In a modification, Fig. 4, the blocks are waisted, Fig. 4. The grooves are formed nearer the cold face of the blocks, which are dried so that they are sufficiently strong to be handled and are as large as can be conveniently handled. In use, the hot face of the blocks become vitrified, but the less highly fixed cold part of the bricks, which are of alumino silicate, can withstand mechanical shock. The blocks have a drill crushing strength of not less than 105 kg. per cm.<SP>2</SP>, weigh 13-50 kg. each and contain at least 34% alumina. |
