The control mechanism is for an immobilising lock of a motor vehicle, having a spring-loaded pushbutton with a locking drum and a control stem sliding in a polygonal-section housing mounted in a holde in the bodywork so that it cannot rotate. Locking is effected by screwing the protruding stem of the drum into the fixed end of the stem forming the bolt. This retracts the protruding portion of the pushbutton inside the housing. The drum stem can be extended by a sleeve through which a pin passes, engaging with the internal spiral grooves in the bolt.
