Parent patent described the removal of As from electrolytes by depositing the As on a cathode; and the periodic inversion of the current was used to reduce the formation of arsine to the min. amt. Improvement comprises the electrodeposition of the As on a cathode via a continuous current (CC) which is periodically interrupted (PSC) to reduce the formation of AsH3 at the cathode. The electrolyte is pref. a circulated aq. soln. of H2SO4, contg. at least Cu and As ions, esp. =30g/l As, and at 50-75 degrees C. The PSC pref. consists of 0.54-3.24 A/dm2 for 2-30 secs., then no current for 1-6 secs., the time ratio zero current:normal current being 2:3 to 1:10. The cathodes are pref. Cu. Less energy is used than in the CIP process described in the parent patent.
|
