Broadband microwave oscillator used as phase modulator - has active device and additional capacitance in rectangular waveguide chosen for given reflection factor relationship

The broadband microwave oscillator, for use as a phase modulator, has a negative resistance device in a rectangular resonant waveguide circuit. The output coupling is positioned so far from the ends of the waveguide that the fundamental generated wave is not affected by the terminations. The inductance of the waveguide (2) is operated below its cutoff frequency, the impedance of the negative resistance device (4) and an additional capacitance (5) are chosen to give a specified relationship between the reflection factors when the active device is conducting and nonconducting and the phase angle change of the reflected wave.
