A machine handling system is used for pallets on a mobile goods transport installation. The transport installation is fitted with a traverse having at least one track which is fitted with devices to pick up goods on either side and to place them on to a pallet which is positioned on a base plate in a goods receiving station. The machine also includes conveyor installations for the movement of empty pallets from a stack of pallets in a store inside the machine to a goods receiving station and to provide loaded pallets from the machine at one of its ends. The empty pallet is moved from its storage stack by a carrier element which is coordinated with a device capable of lifting and/or lowering the pallet.
