Mfr. of a hose comprises shaping a layer of hardenable polymer having a reinforcement embedded in it, upon a mandrel and conveying the same through a curing station, after which mandrel and moulding are sepd. from each other. Hardening of the polymer is effected by passing a heating fluid about the hose under 7kg/cm2. Used for mfr. of relatively long hoses by continuous process. Risk of deformation and/or superficial damage by handling or during vulcanisation is minimised. Hardening of the hose on the mandrel is pref. at 200 degrees C. The heating fluid is suitably a salt e.g. a eutectic mixt. of Na- and K-nitrates or "CASSELL TR 155" (RTM). Vulcanisation temp. is independent of pressure, the latter pre. being 17.5, pref. 28kg/cm2. |
