A binder for physically drying organic soln. coatings comprises a copolymer of 55-95 wt.% vinyl aromatic, 2-20 wt. % of >=1 alpha,beta-unsatd. carboxylic acid or a hemi-ester of an alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic acid with a 1-18 C monoalkanol and 0-35 wt.% of >= ester of (meth)acrylic acid with a 1-12 C monoalkanol. The coating is used for metals, plastics, fibre contg. and mineral materials.
