<p>New tetrahydroalstonine derivs. are of formula (I) (with the exception of that in which R1 is H and R2 is OCH3) and their acid addn. salts (where R1 is H, hydroxyalkyl, alkyl or alkoxycarbonyl; and R2 is OH, 1-6C alkoxy (opt. substd. by halogen), cycloalkyl-alkoxy, cyclo-alkoxy, alkoxy, substd. by piperidino, morpholino, piperazino or pyrrolidino, dialkylamino-alkoxy, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino, cycloalkylamino or a gp. OM (M = alkali or alkaline earth metal; the alkyl and alkoxy gps. being 1-6C and the cycloalkyl and cycloalkoxy gps. 3-6C). (I) have antianoxic, psychotropic and, esp. antidepressant activity. They can be used e.g. in the treatment of behavioural disorders due to cerebrovascular damage or age-induced cerebral sclerosis, and in the treatment of depression.</p> |
