A system for recording a traffic accident of a motor vehicle comprises an analog accelerometer 1 sensitive to acceleration in the direction of travel of the vehicle, and a timer 3 which causes measured values to be supplied via an analog-digital converter 2 at a predefined timing to a shift register 4. The shift register 4 has a number of memory locations required for the time dependent representation of a distance which is relevant to the traffic accident. Further entries into the shift register 4 may be prevented when the speed and acceleration of the vehicle become zero as detected by a microprocessor 6. Because the system does not depend on the road wheels of the vehicle for its measurement of acceleration, locking of the road wheels during an accident does not cause loss of useful information. <IMAGE> |
