<p>1453232 Compositing apparatus JOHNSON CONSTRUCTION CO AB 29 March 1974 [27 April 1973] 13989/74 Heading C1B Apparatus for composting waste material comprises a silo accommodating a bed of composting material, the height of the silo being small in relation to its length, the material being fed into the silo at one end and discharged at the other, means for aerating the material, the apparatus having screw-like agitators for agitating the material and for moving the compost from one end of the silo to the other these being arranged to be moved to agitate the material in every part of the bed and pivotable about a horizontal axis above the bed so that the agitators may be withdrawn from the bed and returned to the starting position and may be positioned on the bed at a variable angle backwardly in relation to their direction of movement in the bed. Aeration of the bed may be accomplished by introducing air through the agitators. Fig. 1 shows a vertical section through such a composting apparatus. The material to be composted, for example a mixture of sewage sludge and garbage, is fed to the apparatus on a belt conveyer 4. The agitator screw 9 may be moved horizontally in a transverse or longitudinal direction in relation to the bed of compost 2 and is supported on a pivot 12 and may be swung to a horizontal or intermediate inclined position (9<SP>1</SP> or 9<SP>11</SP>). The screw agitator has a scraper 14 which is used to level the bed when the screw is in the horizontal position 14<SP>1</SP>.</p> |
