Timing switch for staircase light - uses integral multiple of basic time period for each switching period, given by specified pushbutton operation

The timing switch may be actuated for a time required by an individual person. It has a basic time interval and the ON time can be preset by the number, or the period of the pushbutton actuations, thus giving an integral multiple of the basic time interval. It has a flip-flop (10) serving as a timing element and an input stage (2) for trigger pulse generation. The trigger pulse is derived in the input stage from the push-button signal and controls the switching-on of the staircase timing switch. The output of the input stage is connected to the forward counting input of a two-way counter (8). The counter output is monitored by a zero detector stage (9), whose output signal switches on a switching element, when the contents of the counter differ from zero. This trips the astable flip-flop whose output signal is brought to the back-counting input of the counter.
