Provided is a detection device that can accurately detect an accumulation state even when the target matter is a bulky chip deposit, and even in an environment in which a coolant mist or fine chips are suspended. A chip accumulation state detection device is provided with: at least one light source (L1, L2) that shines a diffused light and at least one illuminance sensor (S1-S7) that detects a signal corresponding to the amount of received light, which are disposed so as to be mutually opposed with a detection region interposed therebetween, said detection region being set within a chip accumulation region; a light source control unit (15) that supplies power to the light source (L1, L2) and causes the light source (L1, L2) to shine light; and an accumulation state determination unit (16) that receives a signal outputted from the illuminance sensor (S1-S7) and determines the chip accumulation state within the accumulation region. |
