NEW MATERIAL:m-(Diethylaminoethyl)styrene. USE:A starting material for polyelectrolytes, ion exchange resins, and adsorbents. The polymerization or copolymerization of the monomer readily gives high polymer bearing aliphatic nitrogens on the side chains, which is useful as functional polymers because of their basicity of the nitrogens, tendency of forming coordination and quarternary nitrogen cation. PREPARATION:The reaction of diethylamine with m-divinylbenzene in the presence of an slkali metal diethylamide is effected to give the compound of the formula, wherein lithium is preferred as the alkali metal and the amide is prepared by the reaction between dietylamine and an alkyllithium in a solvent as hexane at -20- +50 deg.C. |
