The machine tool especially a boring or milling machine has its five automatically controlled axes readily accessible and visible to the operator attending the machine intermittently. Access to the working spindle and workpiece is ensured and chip removing is facilitated. The machine tool working spindle (3) is adjacent and parallel to the machine bed (1). The workpiece carrier (12) is placed beside the machine bed on the same side as the working spindle. The chip removing system (6) or its collection and transporting elements are also arranged adjacent and preferably parallel to the machine bed.
