The digging device for a beet harvesting machine has a body which can move sideways, and two shafts, each with a share plate. It is driven by a cam drive mechanism and has a tappet in front. The digger body (9) is suspended so that it can pivot about a shaft (12) which extends transverse to the working direction and above the cleaning device. The share shafts (10) have a shape which corresponds to the circumference of the cleaning device.
