The sail is partly or totally of a double thickness, the forward part of the sail being wrapped around the large diameter mast while the after part is bound together along the trailing edge. The space between the two components of the sail is initially free, but in use, inflates with the wind giving it an aerodynamic cross-section. As it is allowed to move freely around the mast it retains this shape regardless of wind or boat direction. The configuration reduces sail flap and the tendency for the sail to deflate.
|
