The magnetic clutch consists of two halves, one fitted with permanent or electromagnets and the other one with magnetisable poles. Each half has several rows of poles, the poles of one row precisely aligned with the opposite poles in the row on the second half. The poles of the remaining rows are offset so that, when the two halves are rotated, one row of poles is always aligned with that of the opposite half poles in alternating fashion. The clutch permits numerous variations for different requirements, not only for a synchronous and asynchronous operation, but also for smooth transition from one mode to the other. The arrangement safeguards the transmission of identical moments with uniform and smooth clutch operation. Advantageously the poles have a steel returning flow disc or ring and the intermediate spaces between the poles are filled with a material generating eddy currents.
|
