The base plinth (13) is attached to the base (11) of the furniture unit by a coupling (10) comprising a plate (14) which is set on a support (12) so that it can be freely moved and aligned int the plane in which it is contained. The support (12) is then securely fastened to the plinth (13) by suitable means in the form of a projection or peg which has a saw-tooth profile and can be pressed into a recess (23) in the plinth. The supports of two successive clips or couplings can be fastened at a mutual spacing on the plinth which corresponds roughly to the axial spacing between the feet of the furniture unit so that the clips and supports can be freely moved on the supports into a position in which they can be attached to the feet.
