PURPOSE:To enable the continuous hydrolysis of an alkylene carbonate, by separating a specific crystal line inorganic anion exchanger used as a catalyst easily from the reaction liquid. CONSTITUTION:An alkylene carbonate is hydrolyzed in the presence of a specific crystal line inorganic anion exchanger of the formula Mx<2+>My<3+>.(OH)2x-3y-z. Az.nH2O [M<2+> is a bivalent cation of Mg<2+>, Zn<2+>, Cu2+, Ni<2+>, etc.; M<3+> is a trivalent cation of Al<3+>, Fe<3+>, Cr<3+>, etc.; A is a mono- to tetravalent anion of Cl<->, Br<->, F<->, NO3<->, CO3<2->, So4<2->, PO4<3->, Fe(CN)6<4->, etc.; n is a positive number; x,y, and z are 0<=y/x<=4, 1/4<=z/x+y<=1/2, z is the total equivalent of mono- to tetravalent anions A], well-known as a synthetic hydrotalcite as a catalyst.
