PURPOSE:To provide an oral cavity composition effective to suppress the decomposition of sordes on tooth and prevent the dental caries and pyorrhea, containing a specific N-acetylated amino sugar as an active component. CONSTITUTION:A composition such as toothpaste, mouthwash, troche, chewing gum, etc. containing 0.001-10% of one or more N-acetylated amino sugars selected from N-acetyl glucosamine and N-acetyl lactosamine. The mechanism of the deposition of sordes on tooth is supposed to be (1) adsorption of saliva components to the tooth to form a thin film on the surface, and (2) proliferation of oral bacteria in the film which results in the deposition of the sordes. The above composition suppresses the proliferation of the bacteria in the thin film, and prevents the deposition of sordes on thooth. |
