The inlet channel is installed in the cylinder head of an IC engine for generating a rotating air flow in the cylinder. It has an inlet valve and an inlet part, which at its start has a greater spacing from the valve axis than the valve chamber radius. The cross-section of the inlet channel section in front of the valve chamber has the shape of a rounded surface, a right-angled triangle or a rectangle; whose inclined side is matched continuously in the flow direction to an inclined inner contour in the cross-section of the inlet path (10). In its height it corresponds constantly to the cross-section heights of the round or oval inlet channel opening up to the start of the region (10B) of the inlet part (2).
