A glass plate (16) carrying indexing marks is attached to rotate with the periscope tube about axis (5). The aiming point angle is adjusted by means of the knob (22) so that the worm gear (21) turns the gear wheel (19). This positions the top prism at the desired angle. The graduation (18) of the glass scale is then read by means of the microscope (25). The bearing angle is adjusted by the knob (24) which turns the worm gear (23) to rotate the gear wheel (20) on the outer tubular shaft (3) on which the glass scale (16) is mounted. The graduation (17) can then be read by the fixed microscope (32).
