The mechanical anti-car theft device comprises two telescopically connected and relatively rotatable metal rods. The ends of the rods are formed as hooks such that they can be anchored to the steering wheel and one of the pedals respectively, and there is a lock to lock the rods in the required relative position. The end intended for hooking on to the steering wheel is bent to form two successive U-bends in planes including an angle of about 90 deg. The hook at the end intended for hooking on to a pedal is preferably in a plane which is inclined relative to the rod.
