The safety appts. actuated to prevent or deal with an outbreak of fire, has a generator (3) supplying a charge to a storage capacitor (4), e.g. for releasing a small detonator fuse. The actuator (8) for the appts. is operated by hand and/or via a temp. or gas detector and is independent of the generator (3). Two LED's (18, 22) are used as charge and ignition control indicators, each coupled in series with a high-rated Zener diode (19, 23). Pref. the generator (3) has a manually rotated handle, operated to allow a charge of about 800 volts to be delivered to the capacitor (4).
