<p>The braking mechanism for a railway vehicle has two brake blocks (7), one each side of a wheel, attached by a pivot connection to a swinging cylinder (3). Each cylinder is attached by a hinge to a bracket (5) mounted on the vehicle, at its upper end. At the bottom, the two cylinders are swung together and apart about their upper hinge points by a telescopic connection (31) between them. One cylinder has a piston (19) forced upwards against a spring (13) inside, with a bell crank lever (27) having a roller (33) at the top in contact with it. The other end of the lever is attached to one telescopic part (31). Another lever attached to the other part has a roller forced against a spring loaded wedge shaped member inside the other cylinder.</p> |
