Spot welding gun. esp. for use in flow lines of the motor car body production has the upper welding electrode attached to a bracket which can be swivelled relative to a guide shaft inside a mounting block. At the end opposite to the welding electrodes, a double-acting horizontal power cylinder is attached below the double-acting vertical welding cylinder, to turn the bracket through an angle. The welding gun operates reliably and with little noise. The turning of the welding gun clear of the workpiece is independent of the clamping movement and an interlock can ensure that clamping is possible only after the welding gun has been returned to the welding position.
