The lamp (1) is intended for daylight searchlights, etc., giving a high luminous flux with daylight spectrum. Since such lamps generate a great amount of heat, there is a danger of cracks in the bulb portions, near the caps, due to different heat expansion coefficients of glass and metal. For this reason the cap (2) forms a heat sink, pref. by ribbed structure on the cap surface. The rib (3) on the side facing the discharge tube (burner) is cylindrical or spherical. The cap design typically enables an orientated lamp insertion only. At least one rib may have a flattened periphery. The orientation facility may be a hole, groove, pin, or wedge, and may also provide electric contacting for the lamp. The electric contact and the heat sink may be thermally separated.
|
