Integral markings for synthetic rubber mouldings are made by preparing a partially cured rubber or thermoplastic moulding printed on the face with the required marks/colours and locating the printed moulding as an insert within the larger moulding cavity so that the printed face is on the moulding interface. Esp. claimed for marking moulded shoe soles, using a transparent printed insert pref. made from polybutadiene contg. 0.1-0.5% wt. peroxide, 0.1-1% wt. sulphur and 2-4% wt. accelerators/activators. The marked moulding is semi-cured, e.g. at 138 deg.C and 140 kg/cm2 for 5-7 mins., and bonded with the larger moulding whilst being postcured at 125-160 deg.C; 160-190 kg/cm2; 6-12 mins. The markings are protected from wear and abrasion without requiring deep relief profile moulding.
|
