The sand washer/separator consists of an inclined bottom (2) with a rim at the one end of which the water contg. the sand admixture is introduced. Inside the basin with a sloping bottom created in this way there is a trough acting as an overflow for the fluid part of the mixture. Above the sloping bottom (2) there is a rake assembly (3) with lateral rake elements (4). It operates in a swinging motion in such a way that during the downward motion of the rakes the elements travel parallel to the sloping bottom while during the upward motion the path of the rake elements is an arc. The swinging movement of the rake assembly is produced by the operation of linkage (5) driven by a sliding pin drive (6) connected to a hydromotor receiving its driving fluid from a pump.
