A head rest for a bed having a head comprises a planar panel 1 which is movable in a frame 4 between a stored position and a deployed position wherein it protects the bed head and provides a resilient head rest for a user. The panel has a front surface comprising a sheet (3) which provides a resilient support for a user's head and can be easily cleaned when soiled by a user.
