<p>A race 1 for separating selected members of a herd of animals is provided with an infra-red detector 12 responsive to means carried by a selected member and power means 6 for operating a gate 5 in response to a signal from the detector to determine a path to be followed by such member. A further detector 20 may be provided in association with the path, the output of which causes the gate to move back to its other position and in doing so to press against the flank and rump of the animal as it passes through. <IMAGE></p> |
