It consists of a parallelepipedal body having flat walls with the two larger side walls each subdivided into two halves (3 - 4) and (5 - 6) connected together in a hinged manner (7) and (8) and hinged to both the floor (1) and the ceiling (2) in such a manner that they can be folded up inside the room, in the manner of bellows, until they lie horizontally on the floor (1) with the ceiling (2) resting on the folded walls. The two end walls, on the other hand, are hinged to the ceiling in such a way that they can be folded up against the ceiling before the side walls are folded in. Both the floor and the ceiling are provided with a raised edge (15) and (16) which acts as a container for the various folded and overlapping walls, so that, once the walls have been folded up, it forms a pack of flat elements with the edges of the ceiling contained within the floor edges. This unit enables temporary or emergency fold-up dwellings to be formed which are easy to instal and dismantle, and which take up a very small amount of space and are therefore easy to transport. They can in particular be used, either as individual units or joined together, as temporary living units on building sites, isolated bases or as emergency living units in disaster areas. <IMAGE>
