The metal well plug is used to anchor screws in masonry placed in a blind bored hole and expanding to grip the sides of the bore as a screw penetrates. It comprises a sleeve (11) with returned head tabs (12) which limit penetration, and with tongues (10) cantilevering from the opposite end. The tongues are uniformly wide, are nominally parallel to the sleeve axis, and have a channel section. The walls (14) of the channel return externally and have a linearly undulating edge profile. Peaks (18) and troughs (19) align in planes normal to the sleeve (11) axis and the inclined edges subtend 25 degrees (A) with the axis.
