Key with tangential web on spindle tip - has web offset from but integral with spindle and with stiffening ribs and stepped leading edge

The key has a spindle (3) with an active tip formed by an offset and stiffened diametric web (4) and may be a pressure casting on aluminium alloy or brass. The web comprises a stiffened plate of which the major planes are parallel to a spindle barrel tangent. The web is parallel to the spindle axis, and is offset in the radial sense. The major web face nearest the spindle is stiffened by rectangular section ribs (5) down the centre of each wing and parallel to the spindle axis. Axially offset points (9-13) of reference are formed by radial faces machined on each rib (5) and the interventing web zones.
