Rapid adiabatic pressure swing process for the separation of a multi-component feed gas is effected by selectively adsorbing >= 1 component in a single adsorption bed of small particles, by introducing feed gas into a first end and discharging the depleted gas at the second end with a repetitive two-step cycle sequence at the first end of feed gas introduction and reverse outward flow of depleted gas and a total cycle time of < seconds. The single adsorbent bed has particles of 20-120 mesh, a bed length not exceeding three times the feed-reverse flow pressure difference and < 96 inches.
