The explosive cockpit (1) release for an aircraft is for a cockpit retained by two side rails and arcuate end frames. An explosive cord (6) is fitted along the edges and end frames and also extends along the top of the glazing. The explosion will then split the glazing into two sections. The cord extending along the glazing top can be an elongated loop along the axis of the glazing. A separate cord can extend around the edge of the glazing. The cords can be retained by plastics interlocks fixed to the glazing.
