A vehicle washing machine (Fig. 1) has a frame (10, 11) movable backwards and forwards lengthwise of a vehicle being washed. Vertically hung, rotatably driven side brushes depend from slides (22, 23) mounted on a rail (16) which is laterally movably mounted relative to the frame member (10). The slides (22, 23) with their brushes can be driven to and fro laterally of the machine. If the vehicle is offset from the centre-line of the machine, the rail (16) can be caused, by the reaction force from a side brush engaging the vehicle, to be moved laterally until the brushes engage the vehicle with equal force. <IMAGE> |
