A flash unit is proposed which ensures the operational readiness of thyristor-triggered flash units even when a plurality of triggering pulses are emitted shortly after one another. If a further triggering pulse follows shortly after the flash has been triggered, the triggering capacitor (12) is not yet in a charged state so that a further flash can be triggered. Although the thyristor (3) triggers, the triggering capacitor (12) continues to conduct via the bias resistor (9, 10) as a result of the quiescent current, that is to say it can no longer turn off. The thyristor (3) is turned off in such situations by means of a switch (6) which is connected in parallel with the thyristor (3) and is briefly closed during each triggering pulse. <IMAGE>
