Liquids containing solid components can be filtered with the chamber filter press. These liquids are waste waters (effluents), liquids containing solid components produced in manufacture etc. The chamber filter press contains a filter cavity (22). This is enclosed by support plates (14). On the insides thereof lie flexible membrane plates (16) and on the insides thereof lie filter cloths (18). The liquid is purified on passing through the filter cloths (18) and then flows away between these and the membrane plates (16). At the end of a continuous filter process, compressed air is introduced between the support plates (14) and the membrane plates (16). These arch inwards and compress the filter cloths (18) with the filter cake situated in between. As a result, additional liquid is expressed from the latter. <IMAGE>
