Piezoelectric sound pickups for string instruments, particularly for guitars, and use thereof. In a cross-sectionally approximately U-shaped electrically conductive trough-like crystal pickup housing (15) used as shielding mass, the prismatic piezoelectric crystals (17) are arranged at a distance from one another in the longitudinal direction of the housing (15). The metallised base and cover areas (17a, 17b) of the crystals (17) have opposite polarity and are in each case electrically conductively connected to upper and lower signal output conductors (22, 18) for in each case one of the two polarities. Pressure transfer bodies (K) are in friction-locked engagement in each case with the cover areas (17b) of the crystals (17), on the one hand, and the strings (13), on the other hand. The lower signal output conductors are constructed as metallic base strip (18), which is held insulated on the bottom wall (151) of the housing (15) with interposition of an insulating layer (23) on the underside and at the top of which (18b), the crystals (17) rest with their base areas (17a), making contact. The upper signal output conductors are formed by the fact that metallic blocks (22) are guided with their side faces with close fit in a contact-making manner at the housing sidewalls (152) as base part of the pressure transfer bodies (K) and rest with contact areas (k2) on their underside (22') in a contact-making manner against the crystal cover areas (17b). Within a connecting space (160) of the housing (15), the cable core of the positive feedline can be conducted through in an insulated manner from below through a housing bottom hole (25) and connected to a part (180) of the base strip (18), which protrudes into the connecting space, the negative or earth feedline being conductible to the housing and connectable to it as cable shielding jacket. <IMAGE>
