A can mouth rim is formed integrally with the main side wall of the can by inward deformation of one end of a sleeve blank (1) to preform a flange (3) for subsequent shaping to form the mouth rim as the other end of the sleeve blank is deformed outwardly to form the conventional flange (2) for receiving a crimped or "closed end" type of can end.
