<p>The tool is in the form of a rigid straight tube with threaded ends for testing the pressure-tightness of each cylinder in turn. A pressure gauge is fitted in place of the radiator filler cap and, with the piston at top dead centre, the tool is screwed in place of the sparking plug. Air from a compressor at 4 to 6 kg/cm squared is injected into the top of the cylinder via the tool. Any leakage from the cylinder into the coolant circuit is then indicated by the pressure gauge. Cracks in the cylinder wall or head, and defects in the head gasket also can be detected by this method, which is adaptable to various makes of engine and also to diesel engines. (No claims).</p> |
