To carry out routine re-programming of IFF devices, optronic data input into an IFF device is provided, using an input device which performs a data exchange according to a pre-defined program run via an IR transmission channel and an IR reception channel in order to program an IFF code, entered into a memory of the input device, into an IFF device. In the case of laser IFF devices, the existing optical and optronic systems can be used for the data exchange. In the case of non-optical IFF devices, a separate optronic input system is connected via a coupling stage to the memory of the IFF device.
