Method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium comprising the steps of forming a magnetic tape (2) by coating magnetic paint consisting mainly of an acicular magnetic powder and a binder on a nonmagnetic support, applying a D.C. magnetic field to the magnetic tape in a predetermined direction by a superconductive solenoid magnet (1) provided with a slit (3) through the center, through which slit the magnetic tape can pass so that the acicular magnetic powder is able to move to be orientated in a predetermined direction, and drying it. The manufactured magnetic tape has a residual flux density improved by approx. 10 to 20% compared with the conventional tapes and has a greatly improved tape sensitivity and output. Since a permanent current flows through a superconductor having a substantially zero electrical resistance, power losses due to heating do not occur, thereby considerably reducing operating expenses caused by a cooler or the like.
|
