The invention relates to a heat exchanger for recovering waste heat, having a first chamber and a second chamber, which is in a heat-exchanging relationship with and arranged next to the first chamber. In order to provide a simple, quick acting and economic device by means of which it is possible to provide energy in an inexpensive way, it is proposed according to the invention that the first chamber (1a), through which the flowing agent which brings up the waste heat flows, is provided in a service water outflow line (10), and that the second chamber (7) is constructed as an accumulator (store). The result is that the heat present in the service water is returned and recovered without the additional use of energy, or with the saving of substantial quantities of energy. It is also expedient to construct the accumulator chamber (7) as a heat exchanger and to connect it to a third chamber (9) in a heat-exchanging relationship, and for the third chamber (9) to be connected in a service water feed line (17, 18). <IMAGE>
