In order to achieve a large bearing surface between the cams (6) of the rotor (4) and the stator (1) in a rotary piston engine with a rotor (4), rotating opposite a fixed stator (1), which rotor is provided, for the formation of working chambers (7), with a cam peripheral contour (5) containing a sine fraction and touching the stator, and with scraper elements (13) following the outline of the cam peripheral contour (5) and acting as fixed working chamber boundaries, whilst nevertheless achieving a fully uniform operation, the curve followed by the peripheral cam contour (5) is provided in the area of its maxima and minima circular arc sections (14 and 16) respectively extending over an equal rotor angle of circumference, with a diameter corresponding to the tip (addendum) circle (15) or the root circle (17) of the peripheral cam contour (5), which diameters are joined together by connecting pieces (19) connecting with one another with a constant transition, the progression of which pieces in each case corresponds to a full half oscillation of a sine function. <IMAGE>
