The invention relates to a farrowing cage for pig pens, the cage having the function of sufficiently restricting the freedom of movement of a sow in order to protect the young animals. It has been possible to erect farrowing cages, used up until now, only unsatisfactorily in various positions of a pig pen, that is to say either only with the sides parallel to a delimiting wall of a pig pen or obliquely in conjunction with a corner trough, the cages in each case having a rectangular outline. For better adaptation to spatial conditions, experience calls, however, for an erection of the cage with an outline in the form of a parallelogram, this being prevented, in the case of the known embodiments, by rod arrangements above the cage which prevent the sow from standing up. The invention solves this problem in that the rod arrangement over the cage is configured in the manner of an essentially U-shaped, horizontal spring frame (13), whose leg parts (30), arranged parallel to the side-wall parts (12) of the cage (10), can be changed in length separately in order to permit a common, lateral pivoting-out of the side-wall parts in one direction or the other. The open end, remote from the top frame (11), of the cage (10) is, in this arrangement, closed by a separate door part (14) which is to be arranged at right angles or at a slant. The invention is used predominantly for pig pens which are erected in rows along a feed passage. <IMAGE>
